Lauren Henebry and Ellie Krone won first place in the Sangamon County Farm Bureau Essay Contest. Lauren’s essay was on insuring a safe food supply. Ellie’s essay told of the affect of H1N1 on swine marketing.
Ellie Krone was approved fore the State FFA Degree. Her selection was based on her Christmas Tree Production SAE records. The State FFA Degree is the highest level of FFA membership offered by the State of Illinois.
Tori Bruno entered the FFA Creed Speaking Contest at New Berlin on Feb. 23. Tori recited the FFA Creed and responded to a series of questions from the judges. She placed fifth in the section.

The Tri-City FFA had seven members entered a total of 19 exhibits at the section 14 fair. The fair was held at the Menard County Fairgrounds on July 21. Tri-City members showed horses, poultry, swine, beef cattle, and sheep. Kaitlyn Tarr showed the Champion Simmental Heifer. Julie Ealey exhibited the Champion Hereford Steer. The Tri-City FFA had the Champion Chapter Display of Beef Heifers.

 Eight FFA members competed in the section horse judging on September 9th. The team placed fifth out of 11 chapters. Julie Ealey was the eighth place in individual and Katie Hughes placed ninth.

On October 13 eight FFA members attended the section 14 Land Use Contest. The chapter placed fifth out of ten schools that competed. Allyson Hunt was the sixth place individual. The members evaluated the physical characteristics of the soil profiles and determined acceptable soil management and usage practices.
Five FFA members attended the Section 14 Leadership Training School at Mt. Pulaski on October 14. They were addressed by State FFA Treasurer Adam Herwig and took part in two leadership development activities.

On Friday October 23 six Tri-City FFA members attended the National Convention in Indianapolis, IN. The students visited the National Agriculture Career Show as well as attending a session of the National Convention which featured awards for SAE’s. Those attending were Ellie Krone, Kevin Prior, Kyle Patterson, Lauren Henebry, Katie Hughes, and Chris Curry.

The Tri-City FFA Chapter placed third in the Section 14 Dairy Contest. Ellie Krone was the sixth place individual. The FFA members evaluated three rings of Holstein Cattle and three rings of Jersey Cattle on type.
Lauren Henebry attended the Illinois Farm Bureau Youth Conference on March 30 and 31. Lauren along with Ellie Krone won first place in the Sangamon County farm Bureau Essay Contest.
Eight members of the Tri-City FFA Chapter competed in Livestock Judging at the Illinois State Fairgrounds on April 12. The team members evaluated beef cattle, swine, sheep, and meat goats. The evaluations were based on type, production data, and EPD’s.
In the LLCC Contest Tri-City placed 19 out of 51 schools overall and 8 out of 51 in beef cattle. In the Section 14 Contest Tri-City placed 5 out of 11 schools and Ellie Krone was the fourth place individual.
